Why the chorus so early? I`d like the first verse to ride some more before the first chorus comes. Any opinions?

To me, SOS is one of those songs where the loss of TGPT is huge.

The song is interesting in many ways, but the karaoke drum sound is hard for me to ignore.

I think it's pefect - a new romantic Abbaesque pop disco masterpiece - the pianos over the chorus are glorious - The only thing that jars slightly for me is the disparity between the sentiment and the uplifting music.

Good question, le freak. I like the song as it is, would like it even more if TGPT had played the battery. But what I most like about your post is that it is discussing the work of Roxy Music.

I don't like the same old VRM issues again and again: Will BF change the set list before the European leg of his tour? Should he play with a jazz big band instead of a Roxy light band? Or should he stop touring immediately because his voice is totally broken?

What I am doing these days is listening to all of my RM/BF/PM/AM/Eno discs. In summer I am becoming 60, so I'm listening to the complete soundtrack of my life. And that's the idea behind this action. What do I think about these records nowadays? How do I feel when I listen to them?

Some of the albums I like to play more than once. For example 'Stranded'. It is Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry at their very best. I didn't like it that much in 1973 because I tried to find Eno's sonic sounds in every song but he wasn't there, of course. 46 years (!!) later I've found out that he didn't even have to be there - 'Stranded' is a perfect piece of music (and words). And Bryan's voice was at the peak when he sang 'Psalm'.

BF's first five solo albums were simply great. I wonder how BĂȘte Noire could have sounded with PM/AM/TGPT ... And yes, I still have no access to 'Boys & Girls' + 'Mamouna'. Way too dark ... Currently I'm listening to 'Frantic'. And there he plays again: 'I Thought' including Eno.

Apropos chorusses: I always thought that 'Loop De Li' had one too few (not in the single version !!). But that's pianoman's taste ;-)

Maybe somebody does or did the same - listening to all his Roxy-related discs? It would be great to read about it 8-)

P:
Over the last couple of weeks I've had Siren in my boombox and listened to it through many times (as I type away on a manuscript I need to finish this summer.) I must admit that I skip LITD because its just too familiar, but the rest of the album holds up quite well. However, I wish that BF had cut out some of his vocals and let PM play more lead guitar on tracks like BEB and JAH - this is especially true on JAH!

Another Roxy related album that I've listened to a fair amount this spring is AM's In Search of Eddie Riff. The cd version has three tracks from a BBC session that are a wonderful addition to Andy's catalog!!!

The sax playing on those BBC takes is waaaay more technical and inventive than those that made it on to ISOER.

Similarly, the outtakes included on the cd release of 'Resolving Contradictions' (a behemoth of an album IMHO) are superb.

As for 'Same Old Scene'? From no singles on albums to three in a row on Flesh + Blood was it? By this time I felt that the only notes that mattered were the notes that came in wads!!!

Great tune. Amazing (and odd) that Ministry secured their record contract with this demo.

Not bad, but too bad that this wave didn`t last any longer.

Most bands were releasing 3 singles minimum form every album by that time too.
