PM made a great statement recently where he essentially said that 30% of Roxy’s repertoire wasn’t up to scratch. He was basically blaming the Roxy method of composing i.e. the band recording backing tracks before the vocal line/lyrics existed.

So - here is a list of songs (by album) that have been performed by BF or Roxy Music since the As Time Goes By Tour. I’ve excluded instrumentals, covers and B sides.

Roxy Music 70/30

Re-make/Re-model
Ladytron
If There is Something
2 H.B.
Chance Meeting

The BOB
Would You Believe
Sea Breezes
Bitters End

55/45

Virginia Plain
Pyjamarama

Do the Strand
Beauty Queen
Editions of You
In Every Dream Home a Heartache
The Bogus Man
For Your Pleasure

Strictly Confidential
Grey Lagoons

75/25

Street Life
Just Like You
Amazona
Mother of Pearl
A Song for Europe
Sunset

Psalm
Serenade

75/25

The Thrill of it All
Out of the Blue
Bittersweet
Casanova
Prairie Rose

Three and Nine
All I Want is You
If It Takes all Night
Triptych
A Really Good Time

50/50

Love is the Drug
Sentimental Fool
Both Ends Burning

The End of the Line
Whirlwind
She Sells
Could It Happen to Me
Nightingale
Just Another High

33/66

Stronger Through the Years
Dance Away

Manifesto
Trash
Angel Eyes
Still Falls the Rain
Ain’t That So
My Little Girl
Cry Cry Cry
Spin Me Round

20/80

Oh Yeah
Same Old Scene
My Only Love
Running Wild

Flesh and Blood
Over You
Rain Rain Rain
No Strange Delight

50/50

More Than This
Avalon
While My Heart is Still Beating
The Main Thing
Take a Chance With Me
To Turn You On

The Space Between Us
True to Life

75/25

Overall

43 tracks performed out of 76 or in percentage form only 56% have been performed.

If PM’s comment is actually true then there are 10 songs that he considers good enough that haven’t been performed this century!

I’d suggest

Serenade
All I Want is You
Three and Nine
A Really Good Time
The End of the Line
Just Another High
Manifesto
Still Falls the Rain
Spin Me Round
Over You

Flesh and Blood and The Space Between were performed live by Bryan on his 2019 tour.

Think he opened with Flesh and Blood for a couple of shows (I was at one of them) and Space Between was played at a number of shows.

Two things spring to mind:
1) did Phil sit down and assiduously arrive at 30% or was this a throwaway remark with 30% merely plucked out of the air? If the latter, I wonder would the 'real' figure be 30, 40, 20, 10?
2) it seems at odds with what's said at other times about the great songs that Roxy have available to perform that no-one else does. If nigh on a third of the tracks on 8 'seminal albums' weren't "up to scratch", surely they would be pretty obvious after 40-50 years of scrutiny?
The whole thing is pretty meaninglessness unless there's absolute confidence in 1). Then again, the entire world rarely seems bothered about pesky things like accuracy and detail getting in the way of 'essentially' a good story, so I don't suppose we should either.

I'd guess that Phil's 30% number was approximate. But it doesn't seem that far off the mark!

Not posted for a while but just like to say that , like you all I’ve listened to these nine albums ( including viva issue which still needs the delux release treatment, the material is there just waiting) and I only see maybe 4 or 5 tracks in the catalogue as less than strong. Throw away lines often ring true ….but not in this case.
Good luck to the band for the rest of the tour and very much looking forward to Manchester. I hope they open with either SF or TBM
