For me, THE Roxy Music album...at their zenith both in the studio and live...stunning.

And 'If It Takes All Night' is a belter, The Emperor at his mightiest, as he is throughout the album.

100% correct Stabbs

Interesting reading comments about the sound and the production of CL. I don't know much, but Chris Thomas has claimed that Roxy were having trouble finishing the album, or were unhappy with the sound, and he was brought in to help out, but was not credited on the sleeve. I wonder whether he wasn't available originally as working with other artists at time of recording, being as he had worked on the previous two albums and would produce the next, Siren.

[Update to my post] - I just remembered, apparently CL was the first album where Roxy were able to use 24 track technology in the studio.

IMHO Stranded was pretty much the perfect Roxy album in every respect, including the cover (apparently Marilyn Cole lives less than 2 miles away from me :D ). So it was always going to be a difficult act to follow. I do like Country Life and there are some excellent tracks on it, but I'm not a big fan of the sound on certain tracks. For example on TTOIA TGPT's drums aren't that clear. Fortunately things returned to normal on Siren. Also on Country Life I think Phil establishes himself as a big player in the guiatr world.
