"Manifesto is often misleadingly bracketed with the smoothness of the succeeding Flesh + Blood and Avalon, when in fact it has more in common with Roxy’s earlier era."

-Couldn`t agree more. These surveys are beginning to be quite well known. Some journo full og wisdom tells us what to think. I`m fine. Which fan wouldn´t by now know this catalogue in an out. Yes, the time is ripe, we want something new...

No new music whatsoever for 41 years and completely inactive for something like 33 of those. Welcome though some of the sporadic touring reunions have been, not least the triumph of 2001, Roxy's obituary was penned decades ago.

Great memories and a massive legacy, but sadly it's over, save for scrambling about in the archives to knock out a SDE once a decade or so to a dwindling number of fans. For such an influential band it is, I believe, a demise without parallel. Lesser bands and artists live on, with profiles undimmed or even enhanced compared to their heyday, thanks to proactive management and a level of engagement which has simply never existed in Roxy's case.

Brilliant Richard. Sad, true…but what a legacy!

I would´t say their legacy is so big, neither untouchable in the sense of greatness. There is room for more albums. Their legacy isn´t so good that they risk anything by releasing one more album. The fact that a lot of time has passed since 1982 is their own "fault" and shouldn´t bother their fans.

Of course that's a perfectly valid opinion, but puzzling all the same on a fan site for a band whose influence and legacy has been acknowledged by music luminaries and journalists around the world, and by a raft of artists that followed.

I think what can be said is their commercial success in some territories, falls short of their artistic success there, most notably in the US. But that doesn't diminish influence & legacy.

It's frequently evident from postings here that comprehension of Roxy's huge success in its home country isn't always fully understood outside our shores. Whilst clearly they enjoyed success elsewhere - in particular Europe - a general underperformance in record sales compared to the UK is probably a factor, though nowhere near as prevalent as the position in America.

Whilst a small number of bands of similar longevity continue to produce valid pieces of work, the Roxy dynamics and their collective age lead me to disagree that there is "room for more albums" - certainly of the kind we've had to date anyway.
