there is a very intersting vid of RoXy doing the song Flesh and Blood..quite different from the album version...Andy really is wailing on the sax..Tibbs is rockin' the bass and Phil is psychedelical,,Bryan is a little off..but still cool..the drummerer, not Paul or Newmark..looks like he is in pain..Skinner is great ..Hubbard is annoying...no backup singers [url]http://youtu.be/6lCNX8Zsn8U

That drummer was Michael Daw. He was still in the touring line up when I saw them in Australia, Feb '81. He definitely had a very unusual style.

More to the point, they are, certainly BF, stoned out their heids!
I remember seeing an interview with Andy in which he says, referring to the post 79' re-union, that there was a lot of drugs about at the time.
Could be the reason that the playing at times, especially from Phil and Andy, was atrocious but still good!

Roxy finished the 1980 Flesh + Blood Tour on 02.08.1980. This was a one-off performance in Germany which was performed and televised in December 1980 , a few days after John Lennon's death and a few days before a mini English tour and a tour of Australia. It also gave us the first performance of Jealous Guy. They were a bit rusty on the night but was still a great performance. Does anyone know for sure if they used enhancers ? I've heard that Andy used to drink a load of alcohol in the 80s and Bryan's been addicted to sleeping tablets at times but apart from that, I'm not sure. Although, All Night Operator and Party Doll on Bryan's In Your Mind album suggest otherwise !

I was watching/listening to the Live at the Apollo 2001 DVD over the weekend. Is it just me or are the songs being performed too fast ?

No I think they seem too fast, they have been since that tour onwards and also the odd lyrics being chopped.

I know nothing for sure :D

But, i thought it was common knowledge that bf was "bent on a life between the lines" at this time, acknowledged by lucy in interviews, and isn't andy's booze issue acknowledged by him?

I believe the is much speculation about a lot of soft and hard stuff over long periods. "throw me a line, i'm sinking fast, clutching at straws" ;) all the way through to Hiroshima. Some guess that there is a journey of lyrical references from "c" to "h" just between those two songs.

And surely, we all know what Mother of Pearl is?

But, again, i know nothing for sure! Lol

Ttoia live at dortmund was certainly fuelled by something !

I agree with Ian S: the clip of TTOIA is blistering. It is hard to reconcile this performance with the studio sound that the band was going for at that time. If the guys were well fuelled per comments above then maybe this was a case of "in vino veritas".
