There is that one verse in Bittersweet that is in German.
What do the following lyrics mean:

"Nein - das ist nicht
Das ende der welt
Gestrandet an leben und kunst
Und das spiel geht weiter
Wie man weiss
Noch viele schönste...wiedershen"

http://www.roxyrama.com/classic/lyrics/ ... weet.shtml

I showed the lyrics to my mother who had some German years ago in school, but she didn't know what it means. She said, "It's something about "freedom and art." What does it really say?

Using an online translator................

No - this is not
The end of the world
Stranded alive and art
And the game goes on
How do we know
Many more beautiful ... wiedershen

Here is how another friend translated:

no - that is not
the end of the world
Stranded in life and art
and the game goes on
as everybody knows
with many nice ("goodbyes" or "reunions")

Another person informed me that wiedershen literally means "meet again," so "reunions" might be the better translation.

How popular is Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry in Germany? I would think that they would be quite well known there because of their appearances on the German TV show Musik Laden. What great performances they were! I have the DVDs of their performances. Have you seen how Andy Mackay plays his saxophone upside down during Re-Make/Re-Model on Musik Laden? He got that from the saxophone player in Bill Haley's Band and from Lester Young. :D

All Hail Life and Art!

I couldn't find the thank-clip.. though I saw it a couple of years ago, Ferry receiving some prize of some sort, he thanked the German audiance and told the story when (Bryan) went to Germany with his siter Ann and visited a girl, think her name was Renate, in Germany who seemed to be his sisters pen-friend. Maybe someone else remember this clip (?).

I found that small story very sweet. Sorry, couldn't find the clip.

He seems to be very popular in Germany and also Europe, especially Scandinavia. But so are Roxy Music and Brian Eno. (won't rate..though, I'm not a "rater").

What the rest of that story about Bryan Ferry and his sister Ann's penpal? Sounds like an interesting story. What prize did he get?

It seems like they are really popular in Europe, but not as popular in North America. Why not?

There is an alternative translation in the Songs section of this site i.e.

No, it's not the end of the world
Stranded in the art of life
And the game goes on
As one knows
There are many beautiful things to come
