Hi,

In 2007 I went to see Bryan Ferry and 2 other artists at a Belgian festival. The Lokerse feesten. Since then I got tinnitus (ringing ears, got 4 different sounds) and hyperacusis (being oversensitive to sounds and noise) I'm now 28. My life is ruined.
I can never ever go to concerts, movies, parties, social events with 30 people or more, fun stuff organised in my city, certain pubs and restaurants, not even with custom earplugs.
That's all due to the hyperacusis. It's even hard to keep working.
I've been to almost every doctor in Belgium specialised in this and nothing can be done about it, except giving you benzo's, anti-depressants or therapy to learn to live with it.

As you can imagine, I have sleepless nights, I can't do anything I want. My social life is nearly non existant. This condition is uncurable. Everyone who goes to a concert, get hearing damage, no matter if you notice it or not. You hair cells are damaged for ever when you are in an environment of more than 80 decibels for a while. Concerts range from 100-120 decibels...even 10 minutes damages you. If you are getting deaf within 20 years, you know where it comes from. If you wake up the next morning and hear ringing in your ears, you can't stand someone elses voice etc...you got tinnitus and hyperacusis. You can get this from one concert, one gunshot, so please first of all, wear ear plugs.
Some people think they will never get it...I've been to many concerts before that, never had any problems. Wether you are 20 or 40 of 70 years, you can still get it.

So I need a favour

Someone is Belgium is starting a decibel petition. The organiser will give it to the government. We want more laws that protect us againt hearing damage. (hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis).

The website is also in English, it only takes a while to sign.
I would be very happy if you could help this guy out. He's got the same problem as I do, just from one concert.

So if you want to sign, go here:
http://www.gertdroessaert.be/petitiedec ... n.php?l=en
Just fill in your name and email (will not be spammed) and the security code and you're done.

Thanks in advance
greetings and a happy NY
Michèle
