Lol - funnily enough they did - Canada too. It's well documented that Avalon went platinum in USA eventually, (1992), but although only reaching #53 there it topped the Canadian charts, where it was certified platinum on December 1 1982. It was the 4th best selling album of the year in Canada.

I have some other global sales/chart data for Avalon if anyone is interested.

So this is just the US leg of it. At least we can to some extent see a theme for this world tour. This is all well with me, but "Slave To Love" is far from as good as the song "Avalon".

Bryan has been "playing songs from Avalon" on the last three tours. ;) Perhaps that form of promotion will draw in some folks.......a bit like the "For Your Pleasure" tour did in 2011. I wouldn't expect to hear the full album. :)

I think some of us will be put out by the Avalon hook on the marketing - revisiting the past , Mr Ferry , and not in a new way. It's a bit like Meatloaf plays hits from Bat Out of Hell , or some such angle.

Great itinerary, though - certainly packs in the world tour name but I've already demurred from the Royal Albert Hall gig , so I'm not going.

I`ve always viewed songs from Avalon as nice surprises. Of course, some songs are no longer surprises. I remember "The Space Between" was just played once. "To Turn You On" or "True To Life" have been tried sometimes, but maybe without success. He has half the year packed with gigs. Will his voice manage this?

Well at least India & Tara should spare the vocal chords. :)

Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry have both played ‘The Space Between’ and ‘To Turn You On’ live but to my knowledge ‘True to Life’ has never been played live.

Here is a another report from the Avalon Tour ... maybe in in North America ...

Bryan Ferry has announced the North American leg of his 2019 world tour celebrating Roxy Music’s iconic 1982 album Avalon. Coinciding with the band’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this March, the tour will feature Ferry performing songs off of that record, as well as his solo work and tunes from the Roxy Music songbook. The 73 year old sophisti-pop crooner just released his sixteenth studio LP, Bittersweet.

Avalon, released in May of 1982, was Roxy Music’s final record, and its most successful. Lead single “More Than This” became a top ten hit in Britain and Australia, and the album also features a sexy title track and “Take A Chance On Me.” Ferry explained in 1982 that he had wanted to do an album “where the songs are all bound together in the style of West Side Story, but it always seemed like too much bother to work that way.” Ferry instead took 10 poems that he thought could, with a little more work, be fashioned into a novel. “Avalon is part of the King Arthur legend, and is a very romantic thing. When King Arthur dies, the Queens ferry him off to Avalon, which is sort of an enchanted island. It’s the ultimate romantic fantasy place,” he said.

In 1995, the Spin Alternative Record Guide called the smooth Avalon “one of the all-time great makeout infernos.” Ferry will kick off the tour, appropriately enough, on Valentine’s Day in South Africa, and wrap things up in Vancouver this September. A full list of dates is below.
