Mes Amis,
Une autre belle interview avec notre heros.
It’s great to hear him talk about his career with such affection.
W2 remembers seeing Roxy at ‘Redcar Jazz Club’ in ‘72 - the world just exploded into technicolour.
It was six weeks before the launch of the first album and W2 couldn’t wait to get his hands on it.
It was just so innovative and sexy.
Salutations,
W2

Dear Windswept2,

You beautifully described how you felt in 1972 until the release of the long-awaited album.

Do you feel the same way now with the imminent release of Loose Talk, or are your thoughts and feelings not comparable to those of back then?

As for me, I've described my opinion on this in detail in several previous posts. I won't buy the album.

I just watched Phil Manzanera's video (Diamond Head / 03.2025). Great, very refreshing. Typical Manzo...

While I still had the feeling in 2001 (reunion) that Bryan seemed more fit than his bandmates, my opinion has changed since the last concert in London in 2022.

But I'm interested in what you think about the new album and what you expect and feel.

Thanks for your reply.

I´ve read some of the reviews and interviews. I can´t help but feel there´s some very waterproof wording going around that to me feels as dense as some kind of propaganda. Not even a glimpse of questioning. Will this hold? Is it really a new chapter of his career? What has he been doing all these years since the Avonmore album? What did he do during the covid lockdown? It is just as if Bryan has total control of what to ask.

Of course this is the upward side of the coin. When the record sales begin to show, it may speak quite another story. The said interplay between words and music depends on if you "get" the spoken language. The 28th of March will give us a better background for judgement.

A Norwegian review has "Clean, subtle, deep" in it´s heading, just as an example of the broad media coverage so far:

Cher Uwe,
Sorry for the late reply. I missed this post.
Do I still feel the same way ?
Yes, but differently. Back then we knew that we were onto something new, different and better but we didn’t know where the journey would take us.
News came either from ‘word of mouth’, the music press or by seeing bands, often by chance, at favourite venues.
Of course, we had the radio, we’d had the terrific ‘Ready Steady Go’ and we had the very commercial ‘Top Of The Pops’ but for the real music fan it was the press and venues that made discovering music so exciting.
In this instance, I discovered ‘Roxy’, six weeks before they released their album on Sunday 4th June 1972 at Redcar Jazz Club.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a venue that only operated one night a week and was part of the Coatham Hotel - we all came out feeling very special and part of an exclusive club who’d seen the future.
All these years later, I feel equally excited but in a different way. I’ve been on Bryan’s musical journey and it’s been fabulous. He’s entertained and educated me in equal measure.
Now, we are all in the winter of our lives - he brakes new ground yet again but I discover it, along with everybody else, via what is laughingly called ‘social media’.
So, it’s different but yes, I still feel the same way.
I went to the release night in London. Bought the album and love it. I’ve been ‘Loose Talking’ ever since.
Salutations,
W2
