I think the first time I realised there was a problem was when I listened to 'More than This' on the Avalon remix - the vocals are more distinct and slightly harsher than the original and all the dreamy quality removed - ironically in the 'atmos' remix the original atmosphere I loved has been destroyed ... Then.. I went through Boys and Girls and noticed a similar issue - Familiar parts in the music seem to be pushed into the background with the vocals sounding slightly shrill, dry and centre stage - ruining the original feel of the song - all the warmth in his voice gone - same with the songs I listened to on Bete Noir - I'm actually frightened to listen to any more.Wish they had left everything as it was. Probably my own fault for relying on Apple Music - it seems like these Atmos remixes are the only versions available on that platform :-(

Interesting observations, Gardner. I was just contemplating these mixes myself as I casually listen to a streaming playlist of multiple artists whilst undertaking some DIY. It's picking up some of these mixes, and although I don't have a Dolby Atmos sound system, some differences are very apparent. Some aspects of the music I can't claim to have heard before but chiefly, I'm noticing marked nuances in the voice. I have to say whilst I agree the vocals sound somewhat less smooth, I like them. They feel more authentic, real, true - call it what you will. Certainly adds an extra degree of emotion, I feel.

I've tried listening to a few selected tracks to see what I can discern, but sometimes it's very little and I don't really see the point until I own a bespoke sound system (if I ever do).

I treated myself to apple AirPods Max - apparently these play the atmos remixes properly but - as I mentioned in the last post It's a struggle - I can't even listen to 'Windswept' without grimacing - I wish there was a way to switch between the original mixes and these new ones ...

Personally, I'm loving the Atmos mixes. BF's vocals to the fore, and the separation of the vocals & instruments sounds more open and revealing than the original or 1999 mixes (which I've become accustomed to). The drums/percussion on B&G's & BN drive the songs and give them a tougher sound. I listen on Bose headphones.
