You know, all of the points above are fair enough. However, Erland finally seems to be coming down from whatever crazy Trash fuelled trip he was on (welcome back, mate) and pulls this discussion back to the original point that IanS raised i.e. Bryan is actually asking us what we would like to see him do next. If we take this as a genuine request for our ideas then we should give them to him. He might not take them on board but if enough of us register that we want something similar (and it is not too unrealistic) then who knows !
If anybody has any better ideas then it would be good to hear them - but if nothing better emerges from this thread then I think I will try to work out how to get onto Facebook and lodge mine.

Avondale,
Must have been the full moon.
Why would Bryan only ask through Facecrook and not here?
I think I'll email his website and find out, not that they ever answer.

Personally, I think he's too old to appeal to a young audience. I don't thimk McCartney, The Stones, The Who, Elton, Rod,etc have many fans under the age of 25 which is where most sales originate. So, he should steer clear of dance, funky stuff and concentrate on the slower stuff now.

There's so much music these days and it's hard to wade through it all. The Internet makes it possible for anyone to get known.
Sure, Bryan's 66, but the music of Roxy Music and his solo stuff is a sophisticated, stylish music that's geared towards romantics and is not for everyone.
Concerning steering clear of dance music Ian, I disagree. Have you listened to all of the remixes from Olympia?
I'm a professional ballroom & tango dancer, so I love whatever Bryan's done in that area. When Dance Away came out, I could literally relate to it after I lost Gloria.
It's funny how Roxy & Bryan want input from those on facehook and not here. Not all of us are there.
Hey Bryan! You there?

How can he get a 25 year old beach bum to buy his cds. Almost impossible. So,I reckon he has to relate and appeal to a different audience now. The over 40s. So I reckon, slow ballads.

The 25-year old beach bum? What? Ian, you've got to be kidding! A 25 year-old kid is listening to the musical junk out there while checking his tan. C'mon! The only people that'll like Bryan & Roxy are romantics that like style in their music. In my experience, they cross all age barriers. Whenever I come across a Roxy fan, they seem to have a certain kind of romantic intelligence. Can't put my finger on it but the Roxy fan is different. Sure, some are whiners (I don't like this song or I don't like that song or I don't like this album or I don't like that album:cry: cry cry cry ), but most appreciate the sophisticatedness of this special kind of music, Roxy Music. Even the name of the band evokes style. "rock n roll desire" what lyric! Can't stop this remix from getting deep under my skin. 3 things: Finish and release the Roxy album (no chance, I think Roxy as a current happening are dead and buried after last year)
An album of 1940's or 50's songs much like atgb which would be better suited to his current vocal range.
An album of re-make/re-models of his/Roxys earlier songs, either stripped down or full band arrangements (but not overcooked, probably in the dylanesque vein). Should get him some "product" out fairly quickly, and maybe try new producer's to stretch him a little. Some of the olympia remixes are very good but some others are so so to say the least.

This is what I'm trying to say ! He will sell almost nothing to the under 25 year olds. And close to nothing to the under 40 year olds. No matter how good it is,they won't buy something from a 66 year old. Next time you see him live have a look at the audience.Very very few are under 40 years old. When I was 18,I would have preferred death rather than buy anything from a 50 year old I'm talking about, Jim Reeves,Perry Como,Andy Williams, Dean,,Frank,,Tom,, Englebert, Cliff and possibly even Elvis ! So, he has to target the right audience which for him is in the 40 +. range. So, taking that into account, what does he record now ? Punk, funk, soul, rock, pop, disco, dance, comedy, rap, reggae, or ballads ? Don't speak as a fan. Fans like everything that Bryan and Roxy have released Think how the casual listener would react to him.

While I personally would buy second volumes of Dylanesque and ATGB, I don't think either is likely.
As fresh projects, I'd favour Roxy Unplugged (i.e. stripped back, acoustic reworkings of the back catalogue) and a Stax/Motown collection.

if i'm being asked what i'd really like to see it's Roxy 9. But we know that group politics will likely keep this stone dead as a prospect. shame, the few notes we heard on that docuvideo a few years ago were so good.
if I'm being asked what I'd like to see which may be on the absolute fringe of possibility it's Roxy Unplugged/reworked
if the question is constrained by probabilities etc: well, I'm getting less excited about yet another covers project. i suppose some 40s stuff could be ok, but it's not that exciting a prospect. rather: finishing off a lot of his old material which isn't yet out there , e.g. the unreleased Horoscope and Alphaville stuff (Midnight Train, Love War with new middle 8, Your Love has Died etc)
