Post subject:  Best Vocal

As we are on our favourite RM & BF songs from each album, I thought of another pole regarding what songs best exemplify Bryan's voice.

If we had to decide on 3 vocal performances from each era and from both the solo & Roxy recordings he has released what would you say are Bryan's best in terms of his delivery/stylisation/performance?

It doesn't necessary to be a favourite song, or even a good one, just one that demonstrates the quintessential Bryan Ferry vocal performance & delivery

Hipsters,
J’OB & Rendezvous have made brilliant submissions.
Windswept is still thinking (and listening).
This is the most challenging listomania of all.
It’s good that W2 is locked up.
Were he a free man, he’d never find time to answer this one !
Salutations,
Windswept.

Cher Rendezvous,
J. O’B has issued the most interesting of challenges and you responded magnificently.
It has been difficult to choose.
Happily his career has been long and his voice has changed but at the same time remained uniquely Ferry.
J. O’B split his career into 7 periods which helped focus the mind because there are great vocal performances from each era and many from live performances (Jools Holland etc) or side projects (Sonett 18, Birkin duet etc..)
In fact one of the greatest vocal Ferry performances that W2 has witnessed was his ‘Frantic’ performance at NYC’s Beacon Theatre in 2002.
The acoustics in that place are pretty good. The band (lead by Colin Good) were note perfect and our hero delivered a phenomenal vocal performance that included ‘Falling In Love Again’, ‘Carrickfurgus’, ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow ‘.
W2 has never heard him sound better and had it been recorded would have just chosen that entire show !
We are truly spoilt for choice.
Salutations,
Windswept

Cher Oberon,
Apart from an under analysis of the inaugural years, W2 finds much to admire on your list.
Your choice of ‘The Only Face’ with Enrico Tomasso versus Windswept’s selection with Jools Holland poses a real dilemma.
Isn’t it poignant that our hero has given two of his best performances to one of his most beautiful songs ?
It makes it hard for the aficionado to decide.
Windswept adores Tomasso’s trumpet and it sounds sublime on this song but the emotional wail of Ferry’s harmonica proves too much to ignore.
Given that we are supposed to be judging the vocal, isn’t the truth that both should feature ?
Trop difficile a decider !
Salutations,
Windswept.
