And so to Kings Cross to see The Clang Band's fifth (sixth?) outing in the plushest venue yet, delivering the following set:
Concertina Splash Breaking Out Had A Nice Night Places + Things Rhoda Heaven On Yer Bike Shipbuilding Whole World
Armed as ever with soprano and alto (and a pint of cider!) the mighty Eddie Rifff is now showing his full range; melodic, rip roaring and, on new song Whole World, ethereally atonal (a la Bogus Man/Manifesto). Never has the quote "Happiness is a wet Rico" been more apt!
Another treat for the VRM diehards Smudge (thanks for the disc) Miniluv (nice to meet you Dave) Princess Alison and yours truly.
My only moan of the evening was, you guessed it, the sound: couldn't hear keyboard or sax. Small venues these may be, but you expect some knowledge of personnel to be diplayed.
Other gigs are, according to Clive Langer, to be arranged in London soon. The sooner the better I say.
Gracious as ever, Andy thanked us for supporting and, rather archly I thought, wished me luck on my new soprano adventure!?
And some trivia to finish: Seasoned MacKay fans will be delighted to know that the trademark pointed sideburns have reappeared!!!
BRILLIANT.
