Funny that; I became a huge Sanborn fan during Roxy's 'time-out'. Totally different player/totally different music. Did lovely work out of his usual comfort zone with Bowie and Ferry I remember. My other guilty secret about Roxy's 'quiet years' is I became addicted to (early and late, not poppy middle) Level 42! Wasn't Mark King offered the Bassist job in Roxy circa Manifesto? Went to Gary Tibbs though.....the mind boggles!!! |

Hi Stabbs, I believe that King refused the offer so as to concentrate on Level 42. Tibbs had been a pupil of Herbie Flowers. So, maybe Flowers recommended him to RM. His playing on Ain't That So is pretty good. Cheers, Zappa. |

I think Mark King with Roxy Music would not have been a good thing for Mark King or Roxy Music. I admire MK and have seen Level 42 a few times but I just think it would not have worked long term........but then again has any bass player with Roxy been long term. J.O'B. |

Totally agree John; wouldn't have fitted Roxy and we would have been denied some very tasty Jazz Funk. Also, having met Mark King and having a friend who works every tour with L42, only TGPT would have stood a chance when Kingy got 'punchy'! |

Hi Stabbs, I've just been looking at all the posts about The Clang, and that sounds great to be able to see up close and personal ! I'm hoping to visit a Viva friend there in England this spring and hope we will be able to catch one of their "gigs"! |

Clang Group gigs are rather few & far between, Teresa, and Andy is no longer playing with the band. Recent posts suggest that he may be reviving The Metaphors, with the additional involvement of Hotei Tomoyasu (who is a bit of a guitar hero in Japan, but chooses to live in anonymity in London). Sounds like we might get an expanded issue of the mini-album that was released about five years ago, followed in due course by a new album. Sounds interesting, but, like all things Roxy, it'll possibly require a bit of patience... |
