The 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London is being celebrated in an evening of words, music and song.

Thursday 22 September at the lovely St. Brides Church, London.
www.stbrides.com

Musicians, singers and actors will take part in Great Balls of Fire, staged at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street next Thursday September 22.

Artists include Roxy Music founder member Andy Mackay and music producer and jazz pianist Kenny Clayton. Clayton, best known for his film scores and arrangements for Dame Shirley Bassey, will perform alongside crooner Paul Ryan.

The actors will perform readings from Shakespeare, Pepys and recollections from the Blitz fires. Among those performing will be 102 Dalmatians actress Dorothea Phillips and actor Tim Woodward, who made his name in the late 70s in BBC drama Wings.

Can't make it, clashes with a gig of my own in much less salubrious surroundings!

Someone should try and attend if only for some new photos of Andy. Sadly, I'm in Europe.

Any volunteers?

Three great black and white photos of The Emperor Himself playing at this event on Jonny Armstrong's 'Andy MacKay' Facebook page.

(Perhaps someone with more technical nous than I could post these for general edification?)

Looking older, but still looking as cool as f**k, especially in black 'n' white.

When was the last time anyone saw Andy play a tenor?

That's a soprano sax (unless the question is: when did Andy last play tenor??).

GOOD QUESTION! :-)

Interview coming up soon on roxymusicsongs.com with Roxy Musique sax player Oliver Whawell w focus on Andy and his influence.

Cheers!

Looking forward to reading this interview as I've been thinking this myself. Last five or six times I've seen Andy he's only used alto and soprano; was wondering whether tenor is a bit heavy now (let alone his baritone) or whether it has something to do with the surgery he recently had on his hands/fingers? Certainly hasn't hindered his playing of the smaller horns, his tone and fluidity is just as awesome.

Having said all that, haven't seen an outing of the oboe for years either, which is a shame, as The Emperor's oboe work far exceeds his sax work in my humble opinion (re listen to his work with The Explorers!)

Sorry, misread your post roxymusicsongs, thought you'd secured an interview with The Emperor Himself? Hence my excitement!
