I suspect that Tara has been revived in anticipation of the USA leg of the tour that has been billed as featuring the songs of the Avalon album.
- a bland offering with little sparkle to rouse the spirits of the cognoscenti.
Sigh.
Cher DJC,
By nature Windswept is woefully optimistic and overtly enthusiastic.
Hence your ‘KoolAid’ descriptors were never far from the mark.
That said there comes a time when you have to speak truth to musical power and this is it.
The tour will and probably already has sold out - the wonga will roll in. The musicianship is excellent. The voice is clearly not what it once was but it remains distinctive and listenable. The boy has ditched The Englebert outfit and still looks the part. The reviews offer no new insights or appreciations but are broadly good.
So what’s the problem ?
For the casual fan or the corporate raider - none.
For the cognoscenti, everything. This damn set list is just the absolute worst. When you look at it, it in no way represents his career - either with Roxy or solo - it doesn’t build, surprise, swoop or swoon and the mystic just isn’t there. It is BLAND with a capital B.
It hasn’t been crafted it has either just been thrown together or emerged from Groundhog.
W2 remembers all the gigs of the past with such affection. Oh ‘The Thrill Of It All’. This time he is full of trepidation.
Salutations,
W2
