Andy Mackay performed at a low key local fund raising event on Sunday 7th August with some of his Roxy cohorts.

The band 'Andy Mackay And Friends' included Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson with lead vocals by Suggs from Madness and bass by one time Roxy Music member Guy Pratt

Also in the line up were:
Clive Langer (Guitarist wth Deaf School and producer of Madness, Teardrop Explodes, Hothouse Flowers, Morrisey)

Javier Goyes Congas

Eddie Hart - Percussion

Tim Moore - Keyboards (Nik Kershaw, Bonnie Rait, Hall And Oats, Bee Gees)
Andy 'Rocky' Rock - Keyboard

Bette Bright - Vocals (Mrs Suggs)

Steve Allen - Vocals (Deaf School)

Vanessa Contenay - Vocals (french pop star)

The band played played a mixture of Roxy and Madness songs plus some soul and blues The Kinks 'Sunny Afternoon' and the King Curtis version of 'Whiter Shade of Pale'.

Glad it was somewhere in the wilds of Devon; would have been gutted if it had been anywhere near London and I'd missed it!

Googling revealed minimal info (all from Madness & Deaf School sites), but apparently the gig sold out before any tickets could be put on general sale...

Wonder if it might persuade Andy to take The Metaphors out on the road? Hope so.

I too hope the Metaphors will tour now that Andy's Roxy commitments are over with. London! Paris! New York! Rome! is a great album.

>>Glad it was somewhere in the wilds of Devon<<

It was in Somerset.

I live about 20 miles away and didn't know it was on.

A few years ago Andy played at a Strummerville fundraiser in Bridgwater. More recently Andy and Suggs (and the rest of Madness ?) played together at the Palace nightclub, Bridgwater.

I found out about both afterwards.. :( :(

great line up...featuring Deaf School's Bette Bright, Clive Langer and Steve Allen (Enrico Cadilac Jnr. to his friends) he was the only guy at the time (1976) who looked as cool or some might say cooler than Bryan Ferry.
Deaf School..for anyone that doesn't know were a great, underated band from Liverpool who recorded three great LPs between 1976 and 78...It is said that Bryan Ferry bought thier first LP on the strength of the cover shot alone !

Great set list. Very interesting. I saw Manzanera and friends a few years back at Mitchell & O'Brians restaurant in Soho (1989 ?) when Southern Cross/A Million Reasons Why came out. He did 2 sets. Set one was a load of solo stuff including Diamond Head, plus Love is the Dug and A Song For Europe.Set 2 was a load of Motown stuff. Mackay, Jim Diamond, Kevin Godley and Bob Geldoff all turned up and apart from Geldoff, all had a go on stage. A truly great night. And I had a chat with The Great Men !

Andy Mackay's son played in one of the support bands, Pink Deisel.

You can spot Andy Mackay at the very end of the clip.
