Lyrics to 2HB

Lyrics to the song 2HB, as recorded by Bryan Ferry.

Words & Music By Bryan Ferry

Oh I was moved by your screen dream
Celluloid pictures are living
Your death could not kill our love for you

Take two people romantic
Smoky nightclub situation
Your cigarette traces a ladder

Here's looking at you kid celebrate years
Here's looking at you kid wipe away tears
Long time since we're together
Now I hope it's forever

Ideal love flies away night
White jacket black tie wings too
You gave her away to the hero

Words don't express my meaning
Notes could not spell out the score
But finding not keeping's the lesson

Here's looking at you kid
Hard to forget
Here's looking at you kid
At least not yet
Your memory stays
It lingers ever
Fade away never
Fade away never
Fade away never
Fade away never

The song title is a pun on a pencil grading and is a tribute to Humphrey Bogart with lyrical references to the film Casablaca. The only live performances were in the early tours and a John Peel session for BBC radio on 23rd June 1972.

The band Madness also wrote a tribute to Bryan Ferry called 4BF based on this songs pun.

Bryan Ferry re-recorded the song and usd it as the b-side to his first solo single 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' and also included it on his solo album Let's Stick Together.

A band called The Venus In Furs made up from Radiohead vocalist Thom Yorke, Suede guitarist Bernard Butler,Jon Greenwood, Clune, Paul Kimble & Andy Mackay recorded this song for the soundtrack to the film Velvet Goldmine. The song has also been recoded by R. Stevie Moore
